Latter-Day Saints Welcome Elder and Sister Kacher

The Africa West Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently welcomed a new member to the Area Presidency (senior Church leaders in the Africa West Area). Elder Larry S. Kacher will join Elder Terence M. Vinson, Area President, and Elder Marcus B. Nash, first counselor.

Prior to this new assignment in Africa, Elder Kacher and his wife, Pauline, lived in Russia where Elder Kacher served in the Europe East Area Presidency.

Elder Kacher received a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Brigham Young University in 1976 and a master’s degree in organizational behavior from Brigham Young University in 1978. He began his professional career with Honeywell, based in Brussels, Belgium.

He served as president of the Geneva Switzerland Mission from 2000-2003. Prior to his assignment as a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 5, 2014, Elder Kacher was working and consulting for the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, based in United Arab Emirates.

Elder Kacher shared, “Serving internationally has shown me there is a basic goodness in all people. It helps me understand that Heavenly Father absolutely loves His children. The Spirit teaches in a common language that touches hearts.”

“Our gospel life and our professional life have always been intertwined. I have always loved Church service. Now I get to do it all the time.”

The Kachers are the parents of six children and grandparents of 16 grandchildren. Sister Pauline Kacher shared her thoughts on raising a family while living abroad.

“We loved raising our children internationally. Children’s lives are enriched when living overseas,” said Sister Kacher. “Our experience living in other countries has helped me recognize that there are good people all over the world. We are pleased our children were able to learn that lesson.”

In his spare time Elder Kacher enjoys snow skiing. As a young man he had the opportunity to live and ski in Austria. Sister Kacher enjoys dancing and taught dance at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

Larry Stephen Kacher was born in Mankato, Minnesota, on February 12, 1952.
