LDS Charities donates medical equipment in Anambra State, Nigeria

Officials from government, medical and religious communities recently assembled to celebrate the presentation of medical equipment donated by LDS Charities to General Hospital Onitsha and General Hospital Ekwulobia in the riural state of Anambra in southeast Nigeria. LDS Charities is the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

During his acceptance remarks, Dr. Maduka from General Hospital Onitsha recalled when he was told the Church wanted to donate medical equipment, “I received the news with mixed feelings. I wondered who this organization was and what they wanted. After learning of you and your humanitarian efforts, I am filled with gratitude and pray for God to bless you all”.

He assured the group the donated equipment will bring blessings to healthcare professionals and the patients the hospital serves.

Onitsha Hospital received a Digital X-ray machine and an operating table.  Ekwulobia Hospital is the recipient of an operating table, delivery bed, medical theater lamps, an autoclave for sterilization, and an array of infant-care equipment.

Officials  at General Hospital Ekwulobia assured the group the new equipment will be put to work immediately to “effectively and efficiently serve humanity. We accept this as a gift from God”, said Dr. Ibekwe, Medical Director.

Honorable Joe Akabuike, Anambra State Commissioner of Health stated “Your church is spiritually guided, as these donations are made in areas of greatest need. We assure you the equipment will be judiciously used to relieve humanity in their suffering.”

Peter Ezeigwe, President of Onitsha Nigeria Stake, (group of congregations) explained the mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to invite all people to Jesus Christ and in doing so, attend to “the spiritual and temporal welfare of mankind. We invite you to see these items as gifts from a Heavenly Father who loves His children.”
