​Over 500 Benefit from Health Talk

As part of the activities to mark Democracy Day, the Lagos Nigeria Agege Stake (a group of Latter-day Saint congregations) of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints offered free medical check-ups and medicine to over 500 persons during their first Health Talk seminar.

The free medical check-up included a free eye test, blood test, blood pressure test, one-on-one consultation and treatments.

The seminar was carried out in collaboration with The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) and Eye Foundation Hospital. 

Speaking after the event, Dr. Uduak Akpan Ikpegbu emphasized the effect of diabetes and hypertension. She said, “Diabetes and hypertension if left untreated can eventually cause heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and nerve damage to nerves in the feet.” She encouraged participants to always go for a routine medical checkup.

Mrs. Abosede, a participant said, “It is my first time experiencing a health event organized and held by a church…I have benefitted a lot from just listening to the speakers.”

She added, “Whoever takes health care seriously, is a champion to the society.” 

“We’re always very happy to support this kind of charitable work,” said Rodiat Shodunke, a doctor from Eye Foundation Hospital. “Eye care and preventing vision loss are critical to overall health and quality of life.”

President Christian Chigbundu, the leader of the Lagos Nigeria Agege Stake said the free medical check-up was part of the stake's responsibility to the society.

The day was filled with exciting talks, questions and vibrant discussion on how to improve healthy living even in the midst of a recession.
