A series of high-impact projects that provide clean water to communities is gradually sweeping across South West Nigeria. The latest beneficiary is Araromi, a community of 5,000 located in the Ede North Local Government Area of the State of Osun, Nigeria. A commissioning ceremony was held for this project on 24 February, 2012.

Like others of its kind, this clean water project was sponsored by LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. During the ceremony, elated and grateful local leaders thanked the Church for its generosity.
“This is a dream come true,” said Israel Olukayode Idowu, who serves as secretary of the water committee of the community. He emphasized the importance of clean water in eradicating water-borne diseases. “We have received several promises in the past from government and private organizations,” he added, “but all to no avail. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fulfilled her own promises.”
The head of the largely Muslim community, Chief Salami Adegboye could not hide his joy. He expressed surprise at the speed with which the project was completed. He thanked the Church for remembering his community, when there are numerous others in the State that might have been chosen.
Mr. Idowu reported that a number of neighboring communities in the State of Osun in South Western Nigeria will also benefit from the Church’s clean water project, including Ologun, Lamola, Adodo, Orewon, Agbabiada, Areja and Opiri.
