Nigerian Television Authority Hosts Church Leaders

Starts pact on humanitarian projects

The Management of Nigerian Television Authority (NTA Channel 10), a government-owned and partly-commercial Television Station, recently played host to some leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who were on a courtesy visit to the NTA office at Tejuosho, Yaba Lagos. The meeting is part of relationship building efforts which will see the two organizations mutually work together for the common good of the public.

The guests were warmly received by the General Manager of NTA Channel 10 Lagos, Efe Soriyan and other members of the organisation’s management in attendance. They listened with keen interest as the leaders of the Church took turns to introduce the Church and make a description of some its programs and projects.

Raymond Oraegbu, President of the Lagos Nigeria Yaba Stake (diocese) who also led the Church’s delegation, expressed deep appreciation to the Management of NTA for having previously supported the Church’s Public Affairs events, especially the 100th Stake milestone achieved in June 2018. He also introduced the objectives of Public Affairs from a global point of view. The three objectives listed are; Strengthening Families, Promoting Religious Faith and Protecting Religious Freedom.

A description of the laudable projects LDS Charities- the humanitarian arm of the Church, has carried out over the years in Nigeria was painted to the audience by Ikpe Nkanang-the National Public Affairs Council Director. Adesina Olukanni, the Government Relations Specialist for the Church also took time to explain the impact of Family Values Awards (another initiative of the church), on strengthening families in the society.

Mrs Efe Soriyan made a heartfelt expression after listening to the Church leaders; “it is good that the church is following the injunction of the Saviour that what your left hand had done, your right shouldn’t see, but it is good that once in a while it comes to the fore on occasions like this so that people can say thank you on behalf of the people you have done these laudable things for.”

“Your members are not the richest people in the world and you still give....the cataract operation, the wheelchairs donated, you built schools, you even built roads…these are laudable things. I am sure the hearts of the beneficiaries are blessing you. And we are ready to partner with you to push these things forward (Via Mass Communication), she concluded.

Peace Isaac, Manager of Programs(NTA), also re-echoed the words of the General Manager by advising the Church to start publicizing some of its good works. “We can help to make a program available to you to help project some of these good works”.

A very laudable outcome of the newly formed partnership emerged when the two organizations agreed to start by working together in reaching the needy and the underprivileged during the 2018 Christmas festive period by aligning the “Light the World” initiative of the Church with the NTA Channel 10 Christmas humanitarian party. The “Light The World” Initiative for 2018 was tagged “give as Jesus Christ gave”.

Other members of the management of NTA Channel 10 who were present at the meeting are; Mrs. Alonge Olaolu, Deputy Director Administration; Mr. Jimoh Abdulsalam, the Marketing Manager; Zakar Abdulrazak, the Chief Engineer; Ayooluwa Akinloye, the assistant Chief accountant; Peace Isaac, Manager of Programs; Khadijat Akanni, Manager of the News and Current affairs Department; and Stella Olufunsho, Assistant Manager, Administration.

Raymond Oraegbu, who led the entourage from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the visit, was also accompanied by Sister Adetola Hassan a woman leader in the Church; Mr Charles Igolo, Assistant Area Director and other National Public Affairs Council members of the Church.
