Church Partners with Community to Renovate Health Centre

Community works with Latter-day Saints to improve Health Centre

A 16-day renovation project of the Asunmo Primary Health Center Ede in Osun State - funded by LDS Charities, the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with Asunmo community – provided upgrades such as fresh paint, plumbing, window netting as well as a donation of medical equipment.

 

When the project ended on August 12, 2017, a total of 976 hours had been donated by volunteers.

“I feel excited to be present to witness brothers and sisters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints extend their profound love to Asunmo Health Centre,” said Mrs. Olaniyi Adeola, Head of Primary Health Care Department, Ede North Local Government. “On behalf of the Ede North Local Government Chairman Hon. Daudu Akinloye, we sincerely appreciate your support and kind gestures and especially for choosing our area mostly populated by Muslims. It is rare to see this kind of thing happening.”

Head of Unit at Asunmo Health Centre, Matron Fatoye Bola, expressed her gratitude for the service rendered. “At last God has remembered this hospital,” she said. “Today, I am glad to witness this renovation and see the donation of equipment which will help the people of this community. I have never seen this kind of donation in all my time of practicing. I am glad to be part of this. It is a wonder!”

       

The renovation concluded with a three-hour extensive service project that included cleaning the drainage system, mopping the floors and weeding the compound. Service was rendered by 72 community members working together with 44 Latter-day Saints.

Mustapha Hector, coordinator of the service project, was elated with the outcome of the project, “Today, the hymn ‘The Spirit of God’ has a new meaning to me. As I listened to my fellow saints sing that hymn while we were engaged in the service project. . . the love and unity of purpose was overwhelming.”

The donated equipment includes screens, delivery kits, HIV kits, baby cots, universal bottles, circumcision kits, beds and mattresses, a Benchtop Centrifuge, a Sphygmomanometer, a delivery bed, a drug cupboard, a sterilizing machine, a suction machine, and a trolley among others.

On behalf of LDS Charities, Bishop Odunade Samuel of the Adams Estate Ward (a local congregation), Ile-Ife Nigeria Stake (a stake is a group of congregations) presented the donated medical equipment to the hospital management and the community. Bishop Odunade thanked members of the community and Church members for their efforts and asked the hospital management and the community to keep the hospital clean and maintain the donated equipment.

The Executive Secretary of Ede North Local Government, Mrs. Adebola Faloke, who represented the local Government Chairman Hon. Daudu Akinloye, spoke during the project handover and prayed the Lord continue to bless the life of the members of the Church worldwide: “We appreciate LDS Charities and we love your. . . accomplishment in our community.”
